I need a Notebook, lightweight and under $ 500. I will buy any brand that works and that won’t crap out on me. I would also like to know the names of programs less then $ 100 that I can purchase to help record, and edit my original music. It is kind of a double question. Links too please!

Best answer:

Answer by Eric
you could get a macbook or imac like the pros but that is way out of ur budget they run for 1400 ish or u could get an acer netbook which is about 400 ish but ur best wager is to get a windows 7 computer and see what u can get on that.

CERF: Collaborative Electronic Research Framework

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) January 18, 2012

The National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts (NAABB) has selected BioIT-award-winning CERF Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) software by Rescentris, a division of ELN Technologies, Inc., for NAABB’s data management, collaborative sharing, and intellectual property (IP) protection. NAABB also featured CERF as a panel topic at their recent annual meeting in Tempe, AZ. NAABB received $ 44 Million in Department of Energy funding to create the foundation for a sustainable biofuels industry.

NAABB is a biofuels renewable energy consortium of 30 organizations in academia, industry, and national labs including: Danforth Plant Science Center, Texas A&M, UO/Honeywell, Pratt and Whitney, Terrabon, Los Alamos National Laboratory, US Department of Agriculture, University of Pennsylvania and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. This group combines expertise in algal biology, cultivation, harvesting, extraction, conversion, and energy economics analysis. A very ambitious agenda drove their decision to go paperless with an ELN to capture and organize their data, ideas, references, and best practices, manage document versioning, ensure rapid searchability and reuse of content, and facilitate information assembly for reporting and archiving.

According to NAABB Economics Director Meghan Starbuck, there were worries about ELNs being big, expensive, complex IT projects. However, “once requirements were clear, it was easy to select the Rescentris CERF system from the alternatives” because it was the only product compatible with their diversity of computers and users with true cross-platform support and ease of use.

NAABB implemented a single CERF server with workgroups and permissions configured to support the secure real-time sharing required for geographically distributed scientific teams while ensuring IP Protection for commercialization. NAABB Director William Tyrala said,
“A great challenge for us is to create and manage effective R&D collaborations. We needed an infrastructure and tools for centralized data management that enables researchers to share freely, but at the same time secures and protects sensitive intellectual property data. CERF helps us do this easily for all our notebook records and associated data.”

CERF is able to support the NAABB’s breadth of activities and workflows. CERF system administrator Jeremy Tate said, “The flexibility we have with CERF is crucial to the success of our research” and that it has been easy to manage, with no surprises. At their annual meeting in Tempe, AZ, NAABB hailed their success using CERF to stay on budget and on time.

About Rescentris
Rescentris, a division of ELN Technologies, Inc. provides CERF enterprise software to help organizations protect their R&D investments and increase collaboration and efficiency. The company serves a planetary basal of commercial, pedantic, government and nonprofit research labs in biology and multidiscipline research areas. CERF combines Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and scientific content management for a complete paperless lab information and recordkeeping solution. See http://www.rescentris.com.

But I’m having trouble finding out how to build tablets. If you could provide a link that would be great. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Meh, Internets
“the computer industry is dieing and moving to tablets” Says who? Last time I checked, “normal” computers were still the outdo way to get any real work done (hint: Facebook and Youtube is not “real” work). You can’t build one yourself, unless you have a team of electrical engineers and a fabrication plant at your disposal. If your idea is so good, pick a platform to build for, and write an app for an existing one.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 13, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn – The computer has come a long way since the mid 70’s, from being a scientist’s toy to now becoming a critical productivity tool for businesses, and a full fledged infotainment device for public in general. Personal computers have enveloped every sphere of modern day activity with their sheer magnitude of multiple applications. However, the transitional phase in the computing industry was wrought with numerous technological innovations. PCs have transformed into a mainstream force, which has changed the way people conduct business. PCs, inclusive of notebook PCs, personal digital assistants, desktop PCs, tablet PCs, are now common tools of business and personal life.

Laptop and Notebook computers are the primary source of revenues for the world PC industry. Globally, notebook personal computers are increasingly outpacing desktop PCs in terms of features, computing power and price. Laptops consume up to 90 percent less energy in comparison to desktops PCs. With rising energy cost and the shrinking price difference between a desktop and laptop over the entire product lifecycle makes laptop a cost-effective solution than a desktop from a TCO (total cost of ownership) perspective. The growth of worldwide notebook computer shipments is being further fuelled by the increasing popularity of consumer models that are designed to cater to the need to be mobile and for personal customization.

Netbooks or ‘mini notebooks’ are changing the way people think about the mobile broadband and Internet by enabling consumers to access photos, video, music, and much more, on-the-go. By combining the affordability of netbooks with cost-effective mobile broadband solutions, developers are bringing connectivity to the masses. As a result, netbook PCs will outpace sales of traditional notebook computers in volume terms. Gradually narrowing distinction between netbook PCs and notebook PCs, and cheaper price mean netbooks offer much greater variety and appeal to multiple demographics. Also, subsidies offered by telecommunication firms for signing mobile broadband contracts play a vital role in its uptake.

As consumers continue to embrace digital lifestyle, companies will create products that reflect the sophistication and mobility that is now a priority for enterprise and non-enterprise users alike. Portable computer systems will continue to shine in coming years as consumers continue to seek consumer electronic products they can use anywhere, anytime. An extreme example of this trend is introduction of Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPC) that delivers comprehensive PC capability in ultra-light and small-form factors for on-the-move business users. Also, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) are expected to surface as a result of increased usage of Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). MIDs enable users to have data and high-quality voice capabilities for both professional and personal use resulting in rich Internet experience.

The personal computers industry is highly volatile and is characterized by strong competition, pricing pressures, changing customer preferences, rapid technological developments, competition from well-established high-tech and electronics companies and continuous disputes over intellectual property and antitrust. With a large number of competitors, the market is characterized by price pressures from competitors and price sensitiveness on part of the customers. Frequent product launches, changing industry standards, and high level of price competition in the PC market has resulted in short product life cycles and frequent reduction in selling prices. Manufacturers constantly face the risk of excessive inventories, due to the unpredictability of market conditions.

Asia-Pacific dominates the global market for personal computers and is forecast to grow at a healthy CAGR of 11.3% over the years 2010 through 2015. Driven by a strong performance in regional markets such as China, India and South Korea, Asia-Pacific is projected to be the fastest growing regional market for personal computers over the next few years. In the upcoming years, it is estimated that price reductions; growing usage of Internet across both non-professional as well as business communities worldwide; increased urbanization levels; literacy rate of adults; and population growth; will drive growth for PCs.

The research report titled “Personal Computers (PCs): A Global Outlook” announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a collection of statistical anecdotes, market briefs, and concise summaries of research findings. The report offers a rudimentary overview of the industry, highlights latest trends and demand drivers, in addition to providing statistical insights. Regional markets briefly abstracted and covered include United States, Canada Japan, Europe (France, Germany, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom and Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Taiwan) Africa and Middle East (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia). The report offers a compilation of recent mergers, acquisitions, and strategic corporate developments. Also included is an index, easy-to-refer, fact-finder directory listing the addresses, and contact details of companies worldwide.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 18, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn – Semiconductors have become indispensable elements in the current electronic age, and therefore not surprisingly serve as a key enabler, driver, and indicator of technology progress. Semiconductor technology has played a significant role in evolution of several path-breaking technologies that have changed the face of world that we live in today, including mobile phones and computing devices that have revolutionized communications and information technology areas respectively. The role of semiconductors in this technology driven world is becoming highly evident, thanks to their extensive use in wide range of applications right from traditional computers, televisions, audio players, and telephones to more advanced electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, DVD players, portable media players, video games, home-theater systems, microwaves, and printers, all of which use semiconductor devices.

The semiconductor industry continues to become more and more intricate and dynamic due to ever-changing technology trends in the electronics sector. Right from the inception of transistor, the electronics industry has witnessed continuous developments in the design and manufacture of semiconductor devices. Semiconductors have only become more robust and efficient over the last few years, thanks to ever-increasing power of silicon chip, and shrinking size of transistors, which provide a paradigm for developing a broader set of electronic products and systems. Such technology developments have enabled use of semiconductors even in complex application areas such as automotive electronics, aeroplanes, and state-of-art weaponry. Increasing usage of semiconductor devices for such complex applications has triggered development of smaller, faster, and cost efficient devices.

With most of the end-use industries recovering from the impact of recession in 2010, the global semiconductors market too started to post considerable growth in volume and value sales. The semiconductor industry got a new lease of life post recession with key end-use industries starting to replenish inventories. Resurgence and recovery in enterprise IT infrastructure spending unleashed huge pent-up demand for semiconductors in the computing end-use sector as companies started restoring postponed investments and hitherto deferred purchase decisions. Growing adoption of laptops among enterprises as a key mobility strategy and increasing household PC penetration, have and will continue to boost market prospects for semiconductors in the PC segment.

Increase in demand for ASICs and NAND flash memory devices as a result of growing adoption of tablet PCs and smartphones, and increase in DRAM market in line with resurgence in demand for PCs will continue to induce strong demand for semiconductors. Future growth in the semiconductors market, as recent trends indicate, will be driven by mobile and wireless segments, led by huge demand and widespread proliferation of devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, GPS enabled devices, handheld video game players, solid state drives and e-book readers. Emerging opportunities from automotive electronics segment will only add to the demand for semiconductors over the next few years.

Langtec Composite Tubing Manufacturing Area

Accrington, Lancashire (PRWEB) January 17, 2012

A project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering is set to encourage schoolchildren to take an interest in all aspects of the engineering sector. I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here will introduce engineering into the curriculum, concentrating on Maths, Design & Technology and Sciences, developing and deepening the students’ understanding of the social impact of engineering.

‘This project is a fantabulous idea,’ says sales manager Lee Parnell, who supplies manufacturers with composite tubes and other essential components. ‘The industry is a varied place- offering jobs for creative brains and logical thinkers.’

Supported by online resources, lesson plans and information sheets, I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here provides alternative means of bringing modern engineering into the classroom environment, involving working engineering to inspire the students. The scheme has many facets designed to boosted both participation with the students, providing online jawing rooms, message boards and a dedicated Twitter been where children can interact with the project and ask questions of established individuals in the industry.

‘I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here allows students to interact online from their mobile phones, tablets and laptops, bridging the gap between the generations.’ Continues Parnell of Langtec, composite tubes manufacturers.

The students are encouraged to interact and ask the engineers questions about anything- from green energy, nuclear warheads, chemical development and childhood memories- and the engineers will answer, drawing from their own life and industry experiences.

‘The online aspect of the scheme has been very well developed. The technological era young people live in means they can be perceived to be on a ‘different’ level,’ Says composite tube manufacturer Parnell. ‘Our generation has many who aren’t computer literate, but it’s 2d nature for our children.’

I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here is based on former schemes pointed other sectors; I’m A Councillor, Get Me Out Of Here launched in 2003 during Local Democracy Week, its success being realised by project leader Sophia Collins who recognised that the format could also be applied to science too. Local politics and science share the same difficulties concerning engaging the interest of immature people, as both are often perceived as ‘boring’ and transported a widely held negative pigeonhole.

‘Recent polls revealed young people often choose their careers without being aware of all the options available, and as a result choices can be limited.’ Says Lee Parnell, sales manager for a composite tubes manufacturer. ‘Sadly this means that some talented youngsters have already chosen alternative career paths when perhaps the engineering industry would benefit from their natural skill.’

2008 saw the launch of I’m A Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here after months of research carried out with teachers, pupils and leading figures in various science based industries. The success of the project resulted in two sessions a year from 2010, and by 2011, the scheme had hosted 734 live chat sessions involving 270 scientists answering 19,702 questions from 15,888 students.

‘2012 sees the launch of the very first I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here,’ says Parnell, of phenolic tube manufacturers, Langtec. ‘After the success of the Councillor and Scientist projects, I have high hopes for the Engineer version.’

Completely free for schools to take part, the firstly I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here event is running from Monday 12th- Friday 23rd March, coinciding with National Science & Engineering Week. The ‘X-Factor’ style competition features 25 engineers spread across five zones, interacting with approximately 2,000 students from 50 schools around the country.

‘Basing the project on a popular television show watched by millions of young people is genius,’ says Parnell, who is employed by phenolic tubes manufacturer, Langtec. ‘Presenting information about the subject in a format that students can easily recognise will encourage their interaction.’

The engineers are competing against each other to win a cash prize whilst the students are able to read about their individual work histories and ask questions, eventually voting for the engineer they wish to win the money.

‘I wish I’d been offer this kind of opportunity,’ says Parnell. ‘And I urge students to get involved. It’s my job to sell components for a phenolic furnish manufacturers to lots of different industries. I have to understand the products, such as fibreglass tubes for example; how they’re make and used, positive my role has a high level of people interaction that I really enjoy.’

The engineers with the fewest votes are eliminated from the competition, until one from each of the five different zones is crowned as winner. The project is supported and includes tested teaching methods that develop the students’ skills and deepen their understood of the subject.

‘Engineering allows students to use their natural talents,’ says Parnell. ‘I’d urge any youngsters who genuinely enjoy tasks involving logic and creativity to get involved and consider a career that perhaps you haven’t before. The results can be very rewarding.’

Funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering with support from the Institute of Engineering & Technology and Bloodhound SSC, I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here is one of over 70 projects funded to encourage engineers to share their experiences with students and inspire them to consider one of the many facets the industry for a future career.

‘For me, the most exciting part of this scheme is that some of the students who take part will become the engineers of tomorrow,’ says Parnell. ‘And they will be able to implement the ideas we’re having now to radically change many aspects of our world, from small components like fibreglass tubes to complex propulsion systems.’

The launch, scheduled for March 2012 encourages interested parties from the engineering and educational sectors are encouraged to submit their applications to take separating.

‘I’ll be keeping a close eye on I’m An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here,’ says fibreglass tube manufacturer, Langtec’s Lee Parnell. ‘If this scheme is as successful as the previous Councillor and Scientist were, I’ll be more than happy to welcome the next generation of engineers, designers and companies into the industry.’
